How to add additional authentication methods for Multifactor Authentication.
This method can be used by those that do not have a smartphone or a hardware token, it's less than ideal and other methods should be used if possible. The process works by you registering a telephone number and Microsoft either texts you or calls you.
To setup follow the below procedure.
- Login with your organisational email and password to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- From there select Add Method
- In the dialogue that pops up, choose 'Phone'
- Select United Kingdom from the list.
- Type in your desired phone number, it can be a mobile phone or a home landline.
- Select either 'Text me a code' or 'Call me' (remember only mobiles typically receive a txt message).
- Click next and the verification process starts, you should receive a txt or a telephone call immediately. (Remember your phone signal can impact this process and may delay txt message delivery)
- Complete the verification by typing in the code provided in the txt message.
- If 'Call me' has been chosen, the robot message asks you to press the pound sign which is the # key on your phone.
